What does a domain broker do?
A domain broker mediates between domain owners and prospective buyers, much like a real estate agent between property owner and buyer. Many of the commercially attractive short, generic and brandable domains have been taken for years. Anyone who wants to acquire one therefore has to negotiate with the current owner.
Connect, negotiate, close
Find the buyer or the seller
For buyers, I identify the owner of the domain they want. For sellers, I identify the companies for which a domain has the most value. Then I approach the other side discreetly.
Negotiate on equal footing
A price strategy based on comparable prices actually achieved in the market: when selling your domain to professional buyers, and equally when acquiring the domain you want in the face of excessive demands.
Close securely
Written purchase agreement, escrow through QBK and supported technical transfer through to the change of owner.
A domain broker, also called a domain name broker or domain agent, has essentially the same job whatever the name: a broker creates a professional connection between buyer and seller and supports the transaction from the first assessment to closing.
On the buyer’s side, this includes researching the domain owner, a discreet approach, assessing the market value and developing a negotiation strategy. The identity, project and budget of the interested party are not revealed earlier than necessary.
On the seller’s side, the task is to make the value of a premium domain understandable, identify suitable buyers, qualify interested parties and support the price negotiation professionally.
Structured and flexible handling of the transaction
Depending on the mandate, the service also includes a well-founded value assessment, a written purchase agreement, escrow and the supported technical domain transfer.
Escrow can be handled through QBK Schutzrechte Treuhand GmbH. Depending on the transaction, the parties involved, the preferred payment method and any international aspects, established external escrow and transaction services such as Escrow.com, Sedo, Fruits or Afternic can also be used by agreement.
Which form of settlement makes sense is agreed individually for each transaction.
When is a domain broker worth it?
A broker is worth it above all when the possible economic value of the domain is clearly higher than the cost of brokerage, or when the negotiation requires special market knowledge. This applies in particular to high-value premium domains, owners who are hard to reach, professional buyers, or situations in which the buyer’s identity, intended use or budget should stay in the background at first.
What matters is therefore less a fixed price threshold than the question of what additional value professional research, market knowledge, buyer outreach and negotiation can create in the specific situation.
A domain broker is more than a messenger
Simply forwarding offers does not yet add significant value. What matters is understanding the economic situation behind a domain transaction: Which comparable sales are relevant? What benefit does the domain have for this particular buyer? How realistic is the seller’s asking price? Are there other possible interested parties? And which information should enter the negotiation at which point?
Especially with premium domains, the value of brokerage therefore does not come from the technical transfer of a domain but from market knowledge, valuation, positioning and negotiation strategy.

Four criteria and how I meet them
- Verifiable experience: more than 20 years of professional domain trading (domain experience since 1997), more than 12,000 domain transactions supported, member of DENIC (the .de registry) since 2006, and verifiable references from companies and institutions.
- Written mandate: tasks, fees and responsibilities are agreed clearly and in writing before we start working together.
- Transparent fees: costs and the success fee are disclosed before you engage me. The fee models differ depending on the service, for example between sales, acquisition and negotiation mandates.
- Realistic advice instead of promises of success: a reputable broker promises neither a specific sale price nor a successful acquisition. A reputable broker should assess market opportunities realistically and also be able to advise against a transaction or an unrealistic asking price.
